13th Congress of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders
From 14 to 17 May 2025, the Palazzo del Casinò on Venice Lido hosted the 13th Congress of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders – European Chapter (IFSO EC 2025), continuing a week devoted entirely to the study and treatment of obesity and metabolic disorders.
The congress brought together 1,345 delegates – bariatric surgeons, physicians and healthcare professionals from a number of countries – confirming its standing as one of Europe’s leading forums in the field. The programme combined scientific sessions, workshops, oral presentations, surgical videos and ePosters: in total, 469 scientific contributions were presented, comprising 303 oral communications, 104 videos and 62 ePosters.
At the heart of the discussion were the latest developments in bariatric and metabolic surgery and, more broadly, in the multidisciplinary management of obesity. The programme explored new surgical techniques and technologies, the management of complications, multimodal treatments and the integration of nutritional, pharmacological, endoscopic and surgical approaches. Particular attention was paid to collaboration between surgeons, internists, anaesthetists, dietitians, nutritionists, psychologists and nursing staff, reflecting the growing complexity of caring for patients with obesity.
Held entirely in English, the congress was also accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) with 17 ECMEC credits, underlining its relevance to international continuing medical education.
The Palazzo del Casinò provided the space needed to run scientific activities, training, networking and the exhibition area simultaneously. The venue features the Sala Perla, with a maximum capacity of 594, four further large halls and more than 3,000 m² of exhibition space. During IFSO EC 2025, these spaces also accommodated 24 exhibitors and 8 sponsors, alongside the various sessions and activities in the congress programme.
Running back to back, the SICOB Spring Meeting and IFSO EC 2025 turned the Palazzo del Casinò into a national and international hub for bariatric and metabolic medicine for an entire week, demonstrating the venue’s ability to host complex medical and scientific congresses in succession and to handle large numbers of delegates, parallel sessions and exhibition activities.
