Why the Lido

The Lido has a distinct identity, shaped over time by its relationship with the sea, the lagoon and Venice. Beaches, tree-lined avenues, Liberty-style architecture, small villages and a long tradition of culture and hospitality coexist on an island whose rhythm changes with the seasons and with the people who pass through it.

An island to enjoy at an easy pace

On the Lido, getting around is part of the experience. You cycle along the avenues, walk to the beach, and pass through residential neighbourhoods, gardens and small villages such as Malamocco. Heading south, the landscape opens up towards Alberoni, while on the lagoon side Venice is always there on the horizon. Short distances and the island’s relaxed pace make it easy to enjoy different places in a single day, following the time, the light and whatever opportunities arise.

The Lido and the Venice Film Festival

Since 1932 the Venice International Film Festival (Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica) has been part of the Lido’s story. Every year, between late summer and early September, the Lungomare Marconi and the Palazzo del Cinema become one of the most closely watched places on the international film scene. Directors, actors, industry professionals, journalists and the public descend on the island, changing its daily rhythm for a few days. The bond with cinema is now part of the Lido’s landscape and memory, recognisable even when the spotlights go out.

Consorzio Venezia e il suo Lido

The Consorzio Venezia e il suo Lido brings together local businesses in hospitality, food and beverage and services. Since 2017 it has worked to connect the island’s many players and to raise wider awareness of the Lido, its businesses and its potential. The Consortium’s work covers promoting the area, coordinating local operators and hosting initiatives, gatherings and events that find the spaces, services and expertise they need on the island.
