SICOB Spring Meeting

Congresses

On 13 and 14 May 2025, the Palazzo del Casinò on Venice Lido hosted the SICOB Spring Meeting, the national congress promoted by the Società Italiana di Chirurgia dell’Obesità e delle Malattie Metaboliche (SICOB) and chaired by Maurizio De Luca.

The meeting opened a week during which the Lido became one of the leading international meeting points for the study and treatment of obesity and metabolic disorders.

The scientific programme approached obesity from an increasingly multidisciplinary and multimodal perspective, comparing pharmacological therapy, endoscopy and metabolic and bariatric surgery. Among other topics, sessions explored the management of insufficient weight loss and weight regain, the relationship between obesity and chronic disease, new prospects in robotic surgery, women’s health and medically assisted reproduction, as well as the discussion of complex clinical cases and the training activities of the SICOB-IFSO Academy.

With more than 2,000 Italian and international specialists expected, the meeting was one of the most significant scientific events of Venice’s congress season devoted to metabolic and bariatric medicine.

The layout of the Palazzo del Casinò made it possible to run plenary sessions, specialist meetings and training activities simultaneously across several rooms. The Sala Perla, the venue’s main auditorium, can accommodate up to 594 people; it is complemented by four further large halls and more than 3,000 m² of exhibition space, which can be used for sponsor areas, networking and congress services.

The SICOB Spring Meeting also served as a prelude to the 13th Congress of the European Chapter of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders – IFSO EC 2025, held at the same venue from 14 to 17 May. Running back to back, the two congresses turned the Palazzo del Casinò into a scientific hub dedicated to obesity for an entire week, bringing together national and international medical communities and fostering discussion of the latest developments in bariatric and metabolic care.
